I am Mary Sawatzky and I’m running for state representative for the people of Kandiyohi County. I got into this race because I could not believe that legislators did not collaborate with one another to avoid a government shutdown. The shutdown happened because legislators quite listening to one another. I will be a legislator who places the people of 17B before party and like you, I want practical approaches, not partisan ones. This is Congressman Collin Peterson. Voters are fed up with the gridlock in Washington and St Paul. In house district 17B we need a representative who can get past all the partisan bickering and get things done. Reward yourself for a job You didn’t do? Bruce Vogel did when he voted for the longest government shut down in the nation and STILL took his salary.
- Never mind that 20,000 people lost their jobs because of the shutdown, Vogel took his salary.
- Never mind that when state parks closed and all services ended, Vogel took his salary.
- A legislator should find solutions to our problems, not create MORE of them.

Mary served as the local President of Education Minnesota to ensure that our teachers were fairly represented.
The teachers fund the contracts for Education Minnesota – NOT the taxpayers…
and Mary didn’t campaign AGAINST additional hours for teachers, but she DID advocate that they be paid accordingly.
